£1.5M REVAMP FOR ICONIC SEASIDE HOTEL

ONE of the region’s best-known hotels is about to undergo a £2m revamp, its new owners reveal.

The Bamburgh Castle Hotel in Seahouses has been purchased by north east company Lindisfarne Inns Limited, who have announced plans for a £1.5m investment to transform the hotel into a coaching inn and carvery.

Set to be rebranded The Bamburgh Castle Inn, each of the hotel's 20 bedrooms will get a facelift while a further 10 bedrooms will be created in a new extension, which Lindisfarne Inns hope will also house a pavilion-style dining area with views across the harbour towards the Farne Islands.

And Lindisfarne Inns Limited say the hotel transformation will create up to 40 jobs including managerial, customer services, domestic and maintenance positions.

Director Keith Liddell said: "We are delighted to be the new owners of one of the region's most iconic coastal hotels which we believe has fantastic development potential."

"We are looking to create a coaching inn, offering value for money accommodation and traditional food in relaxed surroundings. We aim to make the most of the building's unique location on the harbour front here in Seahouses to attract holiday makers, day trippers and residents."

Mr Liddell added: "The Northumberland coast is definitely a holiday destination on the up thanks to the unprecedented amount of publicity the area has received recently. We believe there is a growing requirement for accommodation which is high-quality yet functional in a location hot-spot such as this."

Work will be carried out in two phases with the existing building refurbishment expected to be completed by mid summer 2008 in time for the busy holiday season. The new build extension is scheduled for completion by autumn 2008.

In addition to the Bamburgh Castle Hotel, the company owns The Lindisfarne Inn at Beal on the site of the former Plough Hotel. Opened in May 2007 following a complete refurbishment, the inn has a bar, dining area and a 21-bedroom lodge.
