July opening for seaside hotel

A summertime opening has been confirmed for one of Northumberland’s landmark coastal hotels.

Leisure group, Lindisfarne Inns Ltd, which owns the Bamburgh Castle Inn in Seahouses says the hotel will reopen on July 1 this year following the completion of the first phase of a £1.5m revamp of the building.

Bookings are now being taken for the first phase opening to include ten of the Inn’s 30 bedrooms and a new ground floor bar and dining area open to non residents.

An extension with ten bedrooms is being built as part of a second phase, which the group say is on target for completion in September 2008. Plans have also been submitted for an elevated pavilion-style dining area overlooking the harbour, which if passed, will also be housed inside the new extension.

Matfen-based company Ashmoor Construction and Developments are carrying out the hotel’s facelift along with Lesbury architect BluePrint. The Inn interiors are being designed by Chris Wale Interior Design.

Up to 40 full and part-jobs are expected to be created at the hotel once the redevelopment is complete.

Group director Keith Liddell said:

"We are delighted to confirm that the hotel will reopen on July 1 this summer. This is a major refurbishment project however work is well underway and we are on target for completion."

"Because of its fabulous location we have been inundated with enquiries from holiday makers looking to book accommodation at the Inn. We are pleased to be in a position where we can now take concrete bookings in time for the critical high-season holiday period which is great news for all involved."

"We are looking forward to welcoming local people and day trippers into the Inn by opening up the new ground floor bar space where we will be serving good quality, traditional food and drinks from what has to be one of the best viewpoints along the coast."

Mr Liddell added: "We have also received a number of employment enquiries from people in the local area and will be holding a recruitment event for the Bamburgh Castle Inn. Due to the diverse nature of the business we will be looking for staff in a range of different occupations including management, customer services, kitchen and domestic positions."

Further to the Bamburgh Castle Inn, the group owns the successful Lindisfarne Inn at Beal near Holy Island which it bought last year and reopened following a complete refurbishment last May.
