Finishing touches make hotel the inn place to be

The finishing touches are being made to one of Northumberland’s landmark hotels as it gets set to reopen following a £1.65m facelift. Leisure group, Lindisfarne Inns Ltd, who purchased the Bamburgh Castle Hotel in November, are about to reopen the hotel following completion of the first stage of a two-phase refurbishment to transform the hotel into a coaching-style inn with carvery.

Bamburgh Castle Inn Inn with the new: managers Sam Robinson (left) and Julia Baker help put the finishing touches to the new Bamburgh Castle Inn which opens soon.

Renamed the Bamburgh Castle Inn, the first phase opening will include a new bar and dining area on the inn’s ground floor, an elevated pavilion with coffee shop and eating area overlooking the harbour, plus ten of the inn’s 30 bedrooms.

Julia Baker, who, with partner Sam Robinson will manage the harbour-front inn, said: "We just can’t wait to be open. We are becoming more and more excited as the opening date gets nearer."

"Everything is going to plan and we are delighted with the project’s progression. We can’t wait to open the doors and welcome people in. We’ve been inundated with enquiries from locals, guests o have stayed at the hotel before and day trippers, so by the sound of it, neither can they!"

"We are really looking forward to becoming a part of the vibrant community the area is known and loved for."

Keith Liddell, Lindisfarne Inns Limited group director, said: "The unique make up of the building, its size, location and the condition of the original unit means the project has been of a very complex nature and one of considerable size. I am pleased that the refurbishment is progressing well and we are on target for the first phase re opening."

"Within the first phase completion, we are going to be opening up the new ground floor bar space where we will be serving good quality, traditional food and drinks in relaxed surroundings from what has to be one of the best viewpoints along the coast."

"We aim to make the most of the building’s unique location on the harbour front here in Seahouses to attract holiday makers, day trippers and local people."

He added: "I would like to extend an invitation people to come in and have a look around and enjoy the new Bamburgh Castle Inn when it reopens for business."

The second phase development, which includes an extension with ten brand-new bedrooms is on target for completion in September 2008. Up to 40 full and part time positions are expected to be created at the inn once the redevelopment is complete.

Further to the Bamburgh Castle Inn, the group owns the successful Lindisfarne Inn at Beal near Holy Island which it bought last year and reopened following a complete refurbishment last May.

The Bamburgh Castle Inn is due to reopen the week commencing June 23.
